Why is my extension cord too long for my saw?

A long, thin cord causes voltage drop — at 100 feet, a 14-gauge cord can drop voltage from 120 to 110 volts, starving the motor and making it run sluggish and hot. Use a 25-foot cord or switch to a 12-gauge cord for longer distances. Don’t push the motor; stalled saws overheat fast.
