Why does my pool pump lose prime after a few minutes?

An air leak on the suction side is the cause. Check the pump lid o-ring first—lube or replace it if flattened or cracked. Then look for wet spots or tiny bubbles around fittings; spraying a garden hose on a suspected joint will reveal the leak if the pump primes. Fixing the suction side stops the problem and prevents motor burnout.
