Why does a chainsaw chain "stretch" and when should I replace it?

Chainsaw chain “stretch” is actually wear—the rivets and drive links wear down, making the chain longer. Replace it when you tighten it and it sags again after a few cuts, or if the cut goes crooked. Don’t keep tightening; a new chain is cheaper than a new bar and sprocket.
