Why do we have Daylight Saving Time, and do farmers actually like it?

DST started as a wartime fuel-saving measure during World War I, not for farmers. Germany did it first in 1916 to save coal, and the US followed in 1918. It was repealed after both world wars but made semi-permanent during the 1970s oil crisis. Farmers actually hate it because their schedules follow the sun, not the clock — the “farmers love DST” myth is wrong.
