Why did Electric Ladyland's guest players cause tension in the Experience?

The core Experience — Jimi Hendrix, Noel Redding, and Mitch Mitchell — handled most of the album, but Hendrix brought in keyboardist Al Kooper, Traffic’s Dave Mason, and session players. That revolving door was one of the reasons Redding felt sidelined.
