It uses a front-facing camera with trained object detection (PrecisionVision) to recognize cables, shoes, socks, and pet poop, and iRobot backs it with a “Poo Promise.” The [Roborock S](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Roborock+S&tag=wehavethat-20)8 uses structured light and is decent with furniture but struggles with low-profile cables, dark rugs, and small objects, often bumping into or tangling on them. In real-world tests, the j7+ is more reliable at avoiding actual obstacles.
