Where should I stay near Niagara Falls to avoid the crowds?

Niagara-on-the-Lake, about 20 minutes north on the Canadian side, offers a peaceful wine-country setting with boutique inns. On the U.S. side, Lewiston is about 10 minutes north with a small-town feel and far fewer crowds. Both are good options if you want to sleep somewhere quiet.
