When should I backwash my sand filter?

Backwash when the pressure gauge reads 8–10 psi above the clean starting pressure, not on a fixed schedule. Mark the baseline pressure after a clean backwash at the start of the season, then let the gauge decide — every 3–4 days in heavy use, 7–10 in lighter weeks. Trust the gauge, not a calendar.
