When should I backwash my DE filter?

Backwash when the pressure gauge reads 8–10 PSI above the clean starting pressure—not on a fixed schedule. Backwashing too often wastes water and DE powder; waiting too long clogs the filter, drops flow, and strains the pump. Always add fresh DE after every backwash since the powder gets flushed out.
