What's the difference between camera-based and sensor-based obstacle avoidance in robots?

Camera-based obstacle avoidance can tell a sock from a cord and route around specific objects intelligently, while sensor-based systems just know something’s blocking the way. Camera systems are more useful, but you pay for it.
