What's the difference between a power tap and an extension cord?

A power tap adds outlets in the same spot near the wall, usually short (6 feet) with surge protection for electronics. An extension cord moves power somewhere else, longer (10-50 feet) with a single outlet, for distance like power tools or lights. Don’t daisy-chain them—use the right tool for the job.
