What's the best way to fix a leaking cooler drain plug?

Replace the plug—that’s the permanent fix. But try tightening first; sometimes that’s all it needs. If the plug is threaded and the leak is minor, wrap the threads with plumber’s tape. If it’s really leaking, the gasket is shot and a new universal plug or a rubber stopper from the hardware store will work.
