What's the best RAM speed for a 12th-gen Intel build?

DDR4-3200 CL16 is the sweet spot for gaming and multitasking on a DDR4 board. Going faster to 3600 isn’t worth the cost, and slower speeds leave performance on the table. For DDR5, 5600MHz CL36 is the baseline—anything below is worse than good DDR4. But 16GB is getting tight; 32GB is a better bet for modern multitasking.
