What type of shock should I use to break chloramines in my pool?

Use calcium hypochlorite granules or liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite). Avoid dichlor or trichlor—they add more cyanuric acid and make the problem worse. You need 10x the combined chlorine level as your target shock dose, and test with a DPD kit, not strips. If your CYA is over 100 ppm, drain and refill first.
