What temperature should a pool be for comfortable swimming?

Under 78°F is too cold for most people. For recreational swimming, 80–84°F is the sweet spot; for kids or elderly swimmers, bump that up to 84–88°F. If you’re doing laps for exercise, 78–82°F helps keep you cool without shock. If you have to catch your breath when you first get in, it’s too cold.
