Test and shock is usually all you need. Check pH first—rain tends to lower it, so add soda ash or borax to bring it to 7.4–7.6. Then shock hard with double your normal chlorine dose. Skim debris, run the pump for a few hours, and skip testing alkalinity or calcium unless you’re paranoid.
