What should I check first if my pool pump is cavitating?

First, check your skimmer water level. If it’s below the middle of the skimmer opening, top off the pool—that fixes it nine times out of ten. Also clean the pump strainer basket and check for debris blockages. If the level is fine, look for a vacuum leak in the suction line, like a loose lid gasket or cracked pipe.
