What kind of sunscreen should I use for babies and when can I switch to chemical sunscreen?

Stick with mineral sunscreen (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) for babies and toddlers — it sits on top of the skin and reflects UV rays instead of being absorbed. Don’t switch to chemical sunscreen until at least six months old, because babies have thinner, more absorbent skin and the FDA says there isn’t enough data on chemical sunscreen absorption for kids under six months. For toddlers over six months, chemical sunscreen is probably fine, but mineral is still safer. Use stick formulas for faces and lotions with high zinc, SPF 30+, and avoid spray sunscreens for kids.
