What kind of saw do I need for milling lumber vs. firewood?

For milling lumber, you need a pro-grade saw with a 24-inch minimum bar and a ripping chain. Consumer saws overheat under sustained full throttle. For firewood, a standard 16- to 20-inch homeowner saw is fine. Do not use one saw for both — get a dedicated milling saw and a separate firewood saw.
