What is the only way to expand storage on an M1 MacBook Air?

Thunderbolt 3 external SSDs are the only storage expansion path, since the M1 MacBook Air has no internal storage upgrades. They won’t match internal SSD speeds for heavy workloads, but are perfectly fine for documents and media.
