What is the most common cause of a chainsaw chain derailing?

A loose chain is the most common cause. Chains stretch with use, so tension it before each session until there’s about a 1/16th inch gap at the bottom of the bar rail. Also check for worn bar rails, a bad sprocket tip, or using the wrong chain pitch and gauge. Don’t over-tighten it either.
