What is the ideal free chlorine level for a residential pool?
Aim for 1–3 ppm free chlorine. Below 1 ppm invites algae and bacteria; above 3 ppm wastes chemicals and irritates eyes. Adjust based on stabilizer levels and sun exposure—closer to 3 ppm in direct sun with stabilized chlorine, around 1.5 ppm in shaded pools with non-stabilized tabs. Test weekly.
