What is the difference between SLAM navigation and random-bump navigation in robot vacuums?

SLAM navigation builds a live map of the room as the robot moves, so it knows where it’s been and where it still needs to go, cleaning faster, covering corners methodically, and using less battery. Random-bump navigation feels like a drunk roommate with a dustpan by comparison.
