What is the best affordable reverb pedal for that crushing, washed-out reverb sound?

The Boss RV-6, under $150 used. Its Modulate mode with time at 2 o’clock and tone dialed down nails that long, dark, modulated decay. Hall mode works for a cleaner version, but Modulate sounds more organic. It beats the TC Electronic Hall of Fame 2 out of the box.
