What free chlorine level should I maintain in a saltwater pool?

1–3 ppm is the sweet spot for free chlorine in a saltwater pool — same as a traditional pool. Below 1 ppm risks algae and bacteria; above 3 ppm is wasteful and can irritate skin and eyes. Test weekly, and don’t confuse this with salt concentration (2700–3400 ppm).
