What caused the Beastie Boys to leave Def Jam after Licensed to Ill?

Creative differences with producer Rick Rubin drove the Beastie Boys off Def Jam, making Licensed to Ill their only album on the label. They signed with Capitol for their next album, Paul’s Boutique.
