Software calibration vs hardware calibrator: Hardware wins for real accuracy

Software calibration only adjusts white point and gamma curves in software, not the display’s actual hardware LUT, so it’s a guessing game. A hardware calibrator like a Datacolor Spyder or X-Rite i1Display is necessary for real accuracy, but even then, the MacBook Air’s glossy screen and limited contrast ratio won’t give reference-grade color. For serious photo editing, invest in a proper external monitor with hardware calibration support.
