Should I use a regular extension cord for my EV, or do I need an EV-rated one?

Do not use a regular orange extension cord for your EV. EV-rated cords use thicker wire (10 or 12 AWG), better insulation, and weatherproof connectors to handle continuous high current safely. A standard cord can overheat, cause voltage drop, slow charging, or start a fire. Get the shortest length that works, match the plug type to your charger, and don’t skimp on weather rating.
