Should I test for phosphates in my pool if it's green?

Probably don’t test for phosphates at all. If your pool is green, fix the chlorine first — most algae problems are from low free chlorine, not high phosphates. Only test if you have persistent algae despite proper chlorine levels, and treat only if phosphates exceed 1000 ppb. Don’t chase phosphates; they’re a distraction.
