Should I remove the salt cell from my pool before winter?

Yes. The salt cell is expensive and fragile — if water freezes inside it, the cell cracks and costs a few hundred bucks to replace. Clean it with vinegar or mild acid first, then disconnect and store it dry and above freezing in a garage, basement, or shed. Wrap it in a towel or bubble wrap for protection, and remove any other components that could trap water.
