Should I flash a consumer motherboard for ECC support?

Don’t bother. It’s unlikely to work reliably, and you risk bricking the board for marginal gain. Even if you find a modded BIOS for your exact board, most consumer boards lack the wiring for ECC. Unless you already have a known-compatible board and are comfortable with BIOS modding, just get a proper C226 or C222 board instead.
