Should I adjust pH or alkalinity first in my pool?

Raise alkalinity first. Low alkalinity means your water has no buffer, so pH will bounce around. Add sodium bicarbonate to bring alkalinity to 80-120 ppm, then fine-tune pH. Don’t use pH Up or Down until alkalinity is stable.
