Should I add pool chemicals to water or water to chemicals?

Always add pool chemicals to water, not the other way around. Pouring water into concentrated chemical can cause a violent splash or fume cloud. Slowly add the chemical to a bucket of water (if pre-dissolving) or directly into the pool with the pump running near a return jet. Never mix different chemicals together beforehand.
