Is the Magic Keyboard as unreliable as the butterfly keyboard was?

No, nowhere near as prone — but it can still get gummed up. The Magic Keyboard uses a scissor-switch mechanism with a rubber dome, making it way more tolerant of dust and crumbs. You’d have to be pretty careless to actually break it. Just keep the lid closed when not in use and blast sticky keys with compressed air.
