Is it safe to plug extension cords into each other?

No. Do not cascade extension cords. Plugging one into another — called daisy-chaining — increases resistance and voltage drop, making cords run hotter and risking melted insulation or fire. It also adds weak connection points that can spark or short. Instead, buy a single cord rated for the distance and load.
