Is it okay to use a hard mousepad on top of a soft desk mat?

Not really. Adding a mousepad on top of a decent desk mat usually doesn’t improve performance and can hurt it. It introduces a height difference and can cause the mousepad to slide, making aim less consistent. Unless you need a specific surface texture for high-level gaming, a single desk mat is all you need.
