Is a desk-length mousepad better for productivity than a standard one?

Not really. A standard medium pad does everything a giant one does for pointer accuracy, speed, and wrist comfort. The only practical benefit is desk protection for scratched or glass surfaces. For most people, the extra space is aesthetic, not productive.
