Yes – but only if your hardware supports it without replacing the motherboard and CPU. If you have to buy a whole new platform, the math gets shaky. Non-ECC RAM can silently flip a bit, and ZFS will checksum the corrupted data as “correct.” ECC catches that flip before it’s written.
