How should I store an extension cord in cold weather?
Coil it loosely in wide loops (at least 12 inches in diameter) and keep it off the cold ground. Cold weather makes PVC insulation brittle, so avoid tight coils, kinks, or hanging from a nail. If possible, store it inside a garage or basement; otherwise, lay it on a shelf or dry board, not on concrete or frozen dirt. A figure-eight coil helps prevent sharp bends at the ends.
