How should I shoot through railings to avoid reflections and shadows?

Shoot through the railing gaps instead of over the top to avoid catching reflections or your own shadow. Use a polarizing filter to kill glare, or shoot earlier/later in the day. Press your lens between vertical bars or aim between horizontal rails — or use a wide angle and crop later.
