How should I break in a new chainsaw?

Follow the manual, but the key is to run it under varying loads and avoid prolonged idling. Don’t let it idle for more than a few seconds — the rings need pressure to seat properly, so actually cut with it. Run the fuel mix slightly richer if adjustable, and let the saw cool fully between tanks. Recheck chain tension and air filter after the first few tanks.
