How should I acclimate my houseplants to being outside for the summer?

Move them outside only after a slow, week-long transition. Start after nighttime temps stay above 50°F, putting them in a shady, sheltered spot for 1–2 hours on day one, then bring them back inside. Each day, add an hour or two of outdoor time and move them into slightly brighter light over a week to ten days. This prevents leaf drop, sunburn, and shock from wind and temperature swings.
