Wait until the pressure gauge rises 8–10 PSI above clean pressure. Most pool owners backwash on a schedule and waste water and filter media. The filter works best slightly dirty. Check the gauge regularly; install one if you don’t have it. Only backwash more often after an algae bloom or big debris dump.
