How much should I shock my pool after a party?
Yes, double or triple your normal shock dose. After swimmers, your pool is full of sweat, sunscreen, and pee, which eats up chlorine and creates chloramines. Raise free chlorine to 10–30 ppm depending on your stabilizer, test pH to 7.2–7.4 first, and use a non-stabilized shock like calcium hypochlorite. Add it in the evening, run the pump overnight, and keep swimmers out until free chlorine is below 5 ppm.
