How much RAM should I get for a home server?

16GB is the sweet spot. 8GB will run Plex and a few containers but will hit swap or OOM kills during 4K transcoding or database use. 16GB gives real breathing room for Plex, Pi-hole, Home Assistant, and a database. 32GB is overkill for typical home use unless you’re running VMs.
