How much RAM do I need for large Excel files and Power Query?

16GB is a good baseline and a noticeable improvement over 8GB, but 32GB is the sweet spot. Large datasets and complex data models can still hit memory limits with 16GB, causing crashes or “Not enough memory” errors. If you’re on a laptop that can’t upgrade later, get 32GB. If you can swap RAM later, start with 16GB.
