How much baking soda should I add to raise pool alkalinity?

For a typical 10,000-gallon pool, add 1.5 pounds of baking soda to raise alkalinity by about 10 ppm. Test your water first, aim for 80–120 ppm, and calculate the difference. Pour slowly into the deep end with the pump running, then wait at least 6 hours before retesting. Don’t eyeball it — too much causes pH swings for weeks.
