How long did The Modern Lovers' album sit on shelves before being released?

The album sat on shelves for four years before release. Two record labels shelved the band, and The Modern Lovers broke up in early 1974. Beserkley Records’ Matthew Kaufman eventually assembled and released the album from the old tapes in 1976.
