In a mild-winter zone (USDA zone 8+), you can skip heavy-duty winterizing. Just clean the pool, balance pH and alkalinity, add a winterizing algaecide, lower water to just below the skimmer, and cover it. Drain or blow out exposed pipes if you get frosts; otherwise, run the pump on a timer a few hours daily. Don’t overcomplicate it.
