Turn off the pump, set the multiport valve to “waste,” attach the vacuum head and hose (filling the hose with water first), connect to the skimmer, then turn the pump on and vacuum slowly. This bypasses the filter entirely, which is ideal for heavy debris, algae, or fine sediment. Watch the water level closely — it drops fast — and stop before the skimmer sucks air. Refill the pool afterwards, and remember to turn the valve back to “filter” when done.
